Stearic acid is part of some pharmaceutical preparations and is used as a component of plastic lubricants.
In cosmetics, stearic acid is used as a stabilizer of mixtures and an emulsifier in the production of cosmetic creams and lotions. It is also used in soap making as a thickener, making the soap hard and matte. In soap production, the salt of stearic acid, possessing good cleansing properties, is often applied.
Stearic acid is applied in the food industry as a food additive — emulsifier, foam stabilizer, glazing agent, and foam extinguisher, having the index «E570 Fatty acids.» Stearic acid is also used in the production of candles and rubber (to increase plasticity and attractiveness), plastic lubricants, and in the production of stearin (usually in a mixture with palmitic and/or oleic acids).
